We build people, capability, and local ownership

Diar Foundation’s Community Transformation approach is based on a simple principle: sustainable change is strongest when people have the capability, confidence, productive opportunity, leadership, and ownership to shape their own future.

We, therefore, do not begin with a business grant or productive asset alone. We begin by understanding the community, listening to priorities, identifying barriers and strengths, and building the knowledge, readiness, leadership, and practical skills required for people to use opportunities effectively.

Our standard pathway

  1. Community identification and assessment
Understand local conditions, priorities, strengths, risks, institutions, markets, and barriers.
  2. Community outreach and consultation
Engage local leaders, families, groups, and stakeholders in defining priorities and responsibilities.
  3. Participant selection and baseline
Use clear inclusion criteria and establish a starting point for measuring change.
  4. Empowerment and education
Strengthen rights awareness, confidence, financial understanding, leadership, and informed decision-making.
  5. Skills and readiness
Build practical, vocational, agricultural, business, cooperative, and leadership skills appropriate to the opportunity.
  6. Productive activity and enterprise
Connect readiness to viable agriculture, livelihoods, enterprise, savings, markets, assets, or other productive opportunities.
  7. Mentoring and monitoring
Provide follow-up support, problem-solving, accountability, data collection, and learning.
  8. Ownership and sustainability
Increase local responsibility, reinvestment, savings, governance, and community control over productive systems.
  9. Transformation and self-reliance
Support stronger income, food security, resilience, household well-being, local leadership, and reduced dependency.

Our empowerment test

Are people becoming more capable of making informed decisions, solving problems, earning income, managing resources, exercising leadership, and sustaining progress with decreasing external support? If not, activities alone are not enough.

Economic pathway

Empowerment and rights → Skills → Productive activity → Income → Savings → Assets → Enterprise growth → Self-reliance
